CODING

What is option coding?

Coding options on BMW cars allows you to add or remove various features to the car, as well as change its settings. In more precise terms, coding is changing the settings of electronic control units to others. Various settings options are already included from the start by the car manufacturer, so coding does not harm the operation of the electronics.

When each car is released, the factory codes it for a specific configuration, for various standards of the countries to which it is delivered, for example, for environment standards and a special climate. Using coding, you can enable those options and functions that were included by the manufacturer, but were not included in the package due to different marketing interests or standards of the country for which the car is intended.

When is coding needed?

Coding is necessary if you want to add any innovations to your car, such as an M-style splash screen when starting the car or sports instruments. Also, coding is almost always necessary when changing the vehicle configuration or retrofitting it.
